The sits about 13 miles northwest of Worcester and 52 miles west of Boston. Rutland is the highest town between The Berkshires and the Atlantic, the town commons is 1,200 feet above sea level. It is also the exact geographical center of MA.

Things to Do
Each year Rutland has a four-day-long Fourth of July celebration beginning on July 1. Some of the events include local musicians, a lip-sync concert, chicken barbecue hosted by the local Fire Brigade, a Historical Society Lemonade Social, and acclaimed fireworks show. On July 4th there is a parade.
In August there is a Central Tree Chowder Chili Challenge hosted by the Rutland Fire Brigade. Local restaurants compete for the best clam chowder. Over the years this has turned into a great family friendly event.
Rutland is a part of the Wachusett Regional School District, they share a public high school. High school students also have the option of attending Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School located in Charlton.
Rutland has two public elementary schools and one public middle school.
