Only 3.7 miles north of the Boston city line at Suffolk Downs. It is the largest city in Essex County.

The first hiking club in New England was established in 1850 in Lynn, called the Lynn Exploring Circle.

There is no interstate that runs through the city of Lynn, the closest is Route 1 which runs through Saugus and Lynnfield and I-95 in Lynnfield. Lynn has a stop on the Newburyport/Rockport Line for the MBTA Commuter Rail.

Lynn has three public high schools, Lynn English, Lynn Classical and Lynn Vocational Technical High School and four middle schools.

Lynn Classical High enrolls around 1,600 students and has 95 full-time teachers giving a student teacher ratio of 17 to 1. The schools subject proficiency in mathematics and reading is below state average but the highest in the district of three other high schools. The total minority enrollment is 76%. 

Lynn English high school enrolls around 1,600 students and has 104 full time teachers, giving a student teacher ratio of 16 to 1. The schools subject proficiency in mathematics and reading is below state average but perform higher than the distract averages in mathematics and reading, 

Fecteau-Leary Junior/Senior High School serves grades 7-12 and enrolls around 200 students and only has 28 full time teachers giving a student teacher ratio of 8 to 1. This school has the lowest subject proficiency in the district, performing below state average in both mathematics and reading.

Lynn Vocational Technical High School enrolls about 900 students with 80 full-time teachers, giving them a student teacher ratio of 11 to 1. The high school preforms about average with the districts averages. However, the graduation rate is 91%. 

St. Mary’s High School is an independent Catholic high school located in Lynn.
