December Home Sales in Massachusetts Up 10%, Prices up 3%
Massachusetts home sales rose 10% in December this year compared to December home sales last year. There were 6,461 homes of all types (single-family, condo, and multi-family) sold in Massachusetts in December compared to 5,868 last December.
This strong finish to the year is welcome news after a slow fall which resulted in November home sales being down 3% in MA and over 6% nationally many began to think that housing may be heading back down in the gutter again. These December numbers show that the fall slowdown was simply a slight step back.
Home prices for all home types increased 3%, from $359,858 in December compared to $352,005 last December.
Sales of condos, single-family, and multi-family homes increased in Southern New Hampshire compared to December last year, with an overall increase of 12% in the number of homes sold in Southern New Hampshire. 899 homes of all types sold in Southern New Hampshire last month, compared to 800 in December 2013.
Overall home prices in Southern New Hampshire rose 2% last month compared to prices in December 2013. The average price for a home was $234,715 in December 2014 compared to $231,880 last year.
