Burlington, MA is a town in Middlesex County and home to the Red Devils. With a population of 24,500, and four constituent neighborhoods, Burlington is the 77th largest community in MA. It is a suburban industrial town at the junction of the Boston-Merrimack corridor and considered a technology hub.


Housing costs in Burlington have become some of the highest in the nation. The median home value is $476,012 compared to a national average of $247,700. Burlington is a town of professionals, sales and office workers, and managers, and it has more people living there who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US. Burlington Town CommonThe Town Common and Simonds Park are located in the center of town and contain parks, basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball fields, soccer fields, a gymnasium, an indoor skating rink and a skatepark. Burlington is also home to the Burlington Mall, which is where Paul Blart: Mall Cop was filmed, along with scenes from The Company Men. There are many popular restaurants located in Burlington; such as L’Andana, Blue Stove, Papa Razzi Metro, Cafe Escadrille, and Seasons 52. Between Italian, American, Mexican, Indian, and Chinese; Burlington has an assortment of restaurants to satisfy everyone’s hunger.


Burlington is one of the most well-educated cities in the nation; with 47.33% of adults having at least a bachelor’s degree. The town has six public schools; there are four elementary schools, Fox Hill, Francis Wyman, Memorial, and Pine Glen; one middle school, Marshall Simonds; and one high school, Burlington High School. Burlington also has many students that attend Shawsheen Valley Technical High School in Billerica, MA. Northeastern University Burlington campus and part of Bay Path College are also located in Burlington.


trail_stop_08Burlington was settled in 1641 and was officially incorporated in 1799. Some of the early homesteads are still standing, such as the Francis Wyman House. Most of Burlington’s history was agricultural, selling hops and rye to Boston and supplementing that income with small shoemaking shops. It soon became the fastest growing town in the state once Route 128 was built.


Burlington is home to many important sites and businesses, such as the Lahey Clinic Hospital and Medical Center. Route 128/I95 runs straight through Burlington, and contains many sizable buildings such as Demandware, Oracle Corporation, SAP AG, TD Bank, and SunGard. There is also the Burlington mall which has over 170 stores and restaurants. With over 60,000 job openings in Burlington, the companies that offer the most jobs are Lahey Clinic, CVS Health, and Massachusetts General Hospital. The unemployment rate is 4.30%, which is 2% lower than the United States average.
